Plastics have become an integral part of our daily lives due to their versatility. They play an essential role in many industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy, medical, construction, and find use in variety of engineering applications. Our increased dependence on plastic materials and components as well as inappropriate disposal routes lead to plastic accumulation and pollution. Efficient and sustainable plastic waste treatment is crucial to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, reduce plastic pollution, enhance closed-loop material recycling and transition towards circular economy model.
To address this, bat365App手机版下载 through its plastic recycling and sustainability theme, is developing methods for better plastic waste management to allow for material upcycling or circular reuse.
The webinar will introduce the recycling techniques as well as give an overview of bat365App手机版下载’s services and expertise in this field. The talk will then discuss the plastic waste valorisation via thermochemical processes such as thermal pyrolysis, catalytic pyrolysis and gasification. The presentation will finish with allocated time for questions and discussion.

Project Leader - Polymer Science and Engineering
Ana joined bat365App手机版下载 in 2021 as a Project Leader in the Novel Polymer Technology (NPT) section of bat365App手机版下载’s Polymer and Composite Technology (PCT) group. She is a member of bat365App手机版下载’s plastics recycling and sustainability theme, developing novel approaches to end-of-life plastics recycling and adopting circular economy business models via better plastic management practices.
Ana holds a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering. Her doctoral research was carried out in collaboration with bat365App手机版下载 Ltd at National Structural Integrity Research Center in Cambridge and the topic of her PhD was the assessment of highly repellent and non-wetting surfaces. Ana’s research interests include super repellent coatings, thermoplastic materials for hydrogen service and polymer recycling.
Ana has several publications on thermochemical treatment of plastic solid waste (PSW) including comparative assessments of pyrolysis versus gasification, life cycle assessment and sustainable management of PSW, limitations in polymer cracking fluidised beds and energy potential of plastic waste valorisation.
George V. Theodosopoulos MSc, PhD
Senior Project Leader, Technology Polymer & Composite Technologies Group
George is a member of the NIC’s technical expert staff, supporting NIC associate members, providing solutions and innovative proposals as well as managing projects of the NIC.
Holding a B.Sc. in Chemistry, a M.Sc. in Polymer Science and Applications and a Ph.D. in Macromolecular Chemistry, George has a strong background in polymer synthesis, applications and processing techniques. Having practiced the property manipulation of polymers through their predefined structural orientation, he has acquired a good understanding on the effect of intrinsic material properties and chemistry of the monomer units on the behaviour and long-term effect polymer systems in selected environments.
George joined bat365App手机版下载 and the NIC in February 2019 as a Project Leader in the Novel Polymer Technology (NPT) section of bat365App手机版下载’s Polymer and Composite Technology (PCT) group. He is also the group’s polymer recycling and sustainability theme leader.
